The Dog Next Door by D. Dannelly - This is the story of Shadow - who loved and was loved, until,
as so often happens, his owners had a change of plans and the plans did not include Shadow
Helter Shelter - This is an article written by                    of the Modesta    .  If you have ever wondered
about how shelters euthanize dogs, this is a must read. Just imagine - some shelters kill as
many as 75,000 to 100,000 dogs a year.  Someone, a human, a person no different than you or I
has to do this terrible emotion numbing job. This is one such person's story.
How could You? by Lewis Willis.  This is the heartbreaking story of a lifelong companion to a man
who gets his buddy as a puppy, grows with him through marriage, children, and finally a career
change/move - a move that leaves the dog behind, in a shelter, not a no kill rescue, but a kill
shelter, where statistically, a dog over 9 lives an average of 5 days.  These seniors are
considered unadoptable, and expendable to make room for the babies, the puppies that everyone
clamors for.  Read this story and when you go to adopt you next best friend, take two, one to grow
with you and consider adopting a senior too.  Dogs learn from one another and adopting a senior
may just help you train your younger dog to be a much better family member. Meanwhile you will
be giving an older dog the chance to live out his final years with the dignity, compassion and love
that all dogs deserve.
